Bridal shower 1 and 2

The bride’s colleagues threw her a bridal shower at work the past friday, and we had ours on saturday.Like I said earlier I had no plan on how this bridal shower was to be conducted, For starters getting her out of the house was difficult enough, and she had to go shopping all on her own, therefore I was calling her every five minutes to check where she was and if she was coming home. So the best way was to send her off for dress fittings…which worked almost…

It was nice and small, exactly how I intended it to be. Friends and family and lots of food. I dont know why people think that they are invited to these kind of things so that they can bring gifts….We do appreciate the gifts but the accompany is more important right? but hey….Am glad that some people could make it, and the food was delicious. And she received lots of gifts…so her kitchen is set up….(dish cloths, plates, cutlery, pots, kettle, knives and more knives)

As the maid of honour/slave for the day, practise has it that I should throw the “bridal shower” for the bride..Am so tired that I dont have a clue what to do and how to go about doing that..So dearest me ended up telling the bride when the shower will be…..
I’ve told everyone that it is a suprise – and have told the bride that she should’nt tell anyone that she knew, even worse that I told her.
What I have are ideas, how am I going to make them a reality, who knows.

Oh, friend dearest has ideas of her own. what would I do without her, let me just say she comes up with ideas that forces me to come up with better ideas, on the spot. That has always worked. So am just waiting for her to come up with a worse idea that I can beat….It’s a working formula, so should I change a formula that works right?

One thing I like about us, is that a party is not a party without music. If I have that figured out the rest will be easy to put together right. If the push comes to shove, we can always put together a couple of braai stands and have a braai…we will dance and be merry… Kasi bridal shower/whatever you want to call it.

Oh and today I got some sort of a marriage proposal – yes marriage. The oke says since he wants me that bad, he will work for me and save towards the R30 000 of lobola that is now a minimum these days…And people are saying lenyalo aleyo. Clearly they are taking the wrong bus!

Back on the bridal shower business…
I was thinking we have a kitchen theme. Since the bride will be moving to her own home, and she does’nt have anything, we might get her started with a few kitchen items. He friends were suggesting a lingerie theme, but I know my sister best, so Kitchen theme it will be, no more discussions – FINISH..

We have a big yard, so we can have it outside. We dont have a table, however we have a few wooden pallates that my father has been collecting, for what, dont ask me. So, am going to use that as a makeshift table and try and decorate it. I saw some ideas from a magazine on how to decorate an outside table for guest, so am going to use those Ideas and see how that works out. Mmathapelo has agreed to lend us some table clothes, and glasses. And to make the table colourful and going to add food colouring on the glasses to give them colour, and I saw plates at Pick and pay that were R6/7 each. Am buying her 12. That ought to give the table a nice colour.

For the bride – I was looking for a french maiden outfit, but now I can’t find an arear where I an rent the outfit, so will be adding a local twist with a pinafore and doek. Will have to cut it very short to add some naughty streak to it. Plus fish nets and high heals. With lots of make up, and a feather duster.

Games – err’ the only one that I fancied was the one of making a wedding dress with tissue paper. Am still looking for more games, that will appeal to us. (black and young)…Not trying to be political or anything but the truth is some games dont ring home..Even the bridal shower itself, we just mixing and matching..

and to add the spice on top, I’ve got One to day to come up with a solid plan….and the invites are out already…and people are doing their RSVP already!!!! How kiff is that?

We’ve been busy with preparation – kana this wedding had to be planned in order to be written about!

It should be all systems go end of this coming month. Rings bought a long time ago, dress bought and is in storage, the suits for the page boys are safely tucked somewhere. The brides maids’ dresses are being made. The maid of honour’s dress costs a kidney, lung, and a cornea…So yes, everything is all going smoothly as expected.

The groom is in Ghana for work related issues, and will only be back on the 20th. I was suggested we go check out the arrival terminal in OR, incase we have to do an emergency ceremeny.The pictures should still look beautiful right? It’s all about ambiance! However the bride reckons there wont be any need for that….what do I know? Am just the maid of honour who is trying to make contigency plans…

Did I mention that my dress costs millions??

Am haunted by wedding dreams

It’s been two days in a row that I dream about the wedding day. Am not even the bride!!!! First dream : It’s the wedding day and we are all prep’d up and ready but the cars are not decorated with ribbons and baloons – the way we do it ko kasi moes!
I ask the people around me where the ribbons are, nobody knows, and all I can find are ribbons from work with the company name on it. The ambiance is soo dull one can’t even tell there’s a wedding and even more weired, we are not even at home, we are all crammed in one room in white city…AND…The bride o entse push back feela, I ask her kante ekae bonding? why ole soo!she ignores me, like people usually do in dreams.

Then my mom’s friend comes in to ask if we are all set and if we have enough cars. She volunteers to use her car (ahem!), then my friend Dudu says no, she will go pick up her polo somewhere…This is all weired because she doesnt have a polo, I wish she did….
So am arguing with her telling her that her car will have to do because there’s no time and we wont be able to decorate the car….then I remember that I have to bring Lesego’s cd for the wedding step. Now am busy searching through the drawers when the alarm rings…alas ke 4: 30 and I have to wake up…

Next day : This all happens on the wedding day, everyone is all made up and ready to go, in their cute orange dresses, and mine is no where to be found reason because why? The lady who is making our dresses did’nt have the time. In my dream am wearing an ugly purple turtle neck top with jeans and all stars – "not wedding gear at all!!!!! "…And then my sister, the bride has the gal to even say : stay behind or come as you are , so am screaming and shouting, saying how much effort I’ve put into this wedding, am really really hurting in the dream and screaming my head off, when my friend dudu again offers to take me to Macdonalds to calm me down… Am crying and screaming, am throwing my hands when the alarm rings again, and when I woke up, I was still hurting over my dress…A tad happy that it was only a dream… I can’t entepret these dreams, However, some whould say it’s the fears that are lying somewhere in my subconsious mind about the cars and my dress!!!
Am having nightmares – can you imagine the bride????

MJ is messing with my routine

I am sure I was making headway with the boys before Michael Jackson died, Now the frikkin moon walk, twist and turns are ruining everything for me. Am now stuck with a page boy who insists on moonwalking amongs other dreaded things. To top it all he insists on dressing like him, meaning my boots jacket are forever missing, NOT FORGETTING MY GLOVES in this cold cold winter bathong…

Now can somebody stop this MJ madness so that we can go back to practising our wedding step??? We do have a wedding to prep for you know!!!
And can someone turn of the “I am bad” song ringing in my head..enough Now!

ow this post is about the wedding cake, but first would like to say big up to the most amazing woman there is. She got us in time for our 10 Am appointment, made sure we drove passed a horrible car/truck accident on the N12. Taxi drivers have nothing on her…

The madam wants a suitcase wedding cake. My aunt, grandma and almsot everyone don’t like the idea. You know black people and their beliefs, they put meaning to even the most trivial things. My mom thinks it would be like she is eager to leav us or she is being chased away or something along those lines..

so here’s a pic of what the wedding cake would look like.(below) and it will be a sponge cake, because we honestly dont see the reason why we should keep a cake for a whole year before we eat it. A cake is a cake is a cake! and should be eaten. That’s why the sponge cake. The lady who will be doing our cake..www.dreamcakes.co.za, made a sample for us to taste. Well ke kuku, am sure the butter cream will make it even more nicer. I know nice is not the best word word to use, but yes…a nice tasting wedding cake it will be!!!

we were going through the wedding checklist, and it looks like we’re almost there with the preparations. The catering lady is a truly Godsent, and she happens to be a family friend. Not only will she be doing the catering, she will be doing the decor for the reception, the flowers for the ceremony and what else have I forgotten. I was telling her that, basically all we have to worry about is looking uber sexy on the day and nothing else. And her prizes are not too bad.

This past weekend we went to the oriental plaza to check the invites, well we found a pozie where they can print them out for us at a bargain, and they also have these cute table setting with the menu on it as well, and the printing for everything is only R250.00

My sister was crasy about the white suits for the page boys, that she bought them on the spot. Note that the colour for the groom’s men is fawnish or beige ish, Now that means my dress must have a bit of white too, they really look cute in them, way better that the tux Tshiamo tried on at Maponya mall, and oh gosh Katlego in his tiny winny jacket, he is just too cute for words. Will see if I can put up their pictures..

It looks like everybody is set with their wedding outfits, except for. I thought I had my dress of dreams, until I saw this fabulous attire from a nigerian wedding site (side note : Nigerian men are hotttt!) My mom is taking her dress tip from one’ of the first ladies of mzansi…look for the one wearing an orange and gold suit (hint)…

Oh and since we are doing a three day wedding, we have to have three wedding attires. One for friday, one for the saturday and the other when we go to the groom’s family. Now the bride and the groom both come from tswana families, so that would mean that we would have to wear seshweshwe twice, am thinking cutting cost, the bride is thinking no, lets hire zulu outfits for friday and then get tswana outfits for sunday! And for malice I thought of rocking up in a tiny zulu skirt…but then again I can’t I am afterall umamkhulu wa bantwana, and will probably be doing the whole “giving out of presents to the inlaws, so I guess I must dress the part…

Phela I’ve never done the whole breast out, short skirt with beads look, this would have been the perfect opportunity.I really like the diversity in our culture but sometimes I feel limited because we do not practise it, in it’s fullest because of being modernised and what not.

The wedding dress

We’ve found and bought the wedding the dress already and I must say it is stunning..(she looks like a real princess in it. )My sister tried a few dress on, on the were some she liked and some which I liked, which my mother did’nt like.

See my mother likes tight fitting dresses and my sister likes cinderella dresses and I like the bubble dresses. That was a bit of a problem, because none of us have the same taste..Finally we found the dress of dreams, to cut the story short, she tried the dress on, I cried, my mom cried and her cried and the poor sales lady was left with a bunch crying ladies…Am sure Tshiamo has his own version of the story….

so am putting up a few pics of the dresses that we tried on.I wont be putting up her wedding dress because I want you to be supprised when when you see her in it.and I, also tried on a dress…

We went to the bridal factory in Rivonia..check their website out http://www.brideandco.co.za/news.cfm. We went there when they had their sale we got a real bargain on the dress I must say….

We paying for the dress this coming weekend afer some drama about the storage. My sister called me and asked me to sort this issue out, and like a great big sister that I am, did just that…..Proud big sister/maid of honour moment for me there…The sales lady was’nt impressed though.

And from now on will refer to myself as the “maid of honour”…

the wedding step

Tshiamo 5 and Katli 2, will be page boys at the wedding and I as I’ve mentioned, am the matron of honour (sounds very prominent which is only but an extreme euphemism for slave for the day), now I dont know how they do it at the creche but I seriously need some break through with these boys. They have’nt catched any of the steps I’ve been teaching them. Tshiamo is adding his own moves and Katli is just not cooperating..

I bought Lesego’s CD and am serioulsy praying for Jazeel brothers, Malaika or Mafikizolo to come up with a rocking wedding song in time for the wedding, if not then it will be Lesego’s old song “Mas’shade ntombaza”, or one of the love songs in Lesego’s new cd..

The dance step I have choreographed is simple, it has me moving forward and the boys moving to the opposite sides,simple yes? But now, Tshiamo insist on holding my hand..the boy has been watching too many western wedding movies..my doing I regret. And as for Katli, for him it is one step forward and one step back, we not getting any where here…

I am trying my absolute best, we practise the step atleast once or twice a week, and this has been going on since the first day we found out that my sister is getting married. There should be some headway by now.
